Shitcluster started 10 years ago, and thus it is a good time to re-release the old cassettes onto a double CD.

3×10 Single Project

| date: 13 July 2007

This mini album is part of a 3 x 10 inch single package by Unit moebius anonymous, Shitcluster and Geranium.

The vinyl (lathe cut) pressing was done by Peter King Records in New Zealand, then shipped to the Netherlands, where we labeled the records manually. The three singles were then tightly wrapped in old fashioned wallpaper, and marked with a potato stamp.

Watch Peter King at work (youtube playlist):

Each set includes a DVD with video clips, made by local artists and friends from Den Haag. The video project’s code name was SVP2: a follow up to SVP (Shitcluster Videoclip Project). The rules of the project are: make a video clip, and use or abuse the soundtrack of your choice in any way you like.

Most of the packages were sold out (non-profit), long before they arrived from overseas. The sound quality varied per record.

A release party was given in de illusie, former residence of Bunker Records and Radio Tonka, and the oldest squat in The Hague at the time (it was evicted and torn down earlier this year). Shitcluster, UMa and SWM played live, and 2 deejays made sure nobody stayed too long.

It Sucks

A 10 inch mini album made for Martijn Tellinga / Stichting Mixer: “Please no dancefloor material, but personal secrets”. Digging through dusty shoeboxes with unlabeled cassettes and minidisks, selecting, cutting and arranging the bits and pieces to fit the time limits of a 10 inch record.

The Devil Is In The Detail

| date: 23 November 1998

Closer to 1999, another cassette album was produced in a similar manner, and as a follow up to ‘A New Face In Hell’. “The Devil Is In The Detail” was marginally successful:  nobody said they hated it. This time the production methods had been more professional, hence less noise, but the overall satisfaction level did not increase accordingly. Somehow, Matt fom Scotland sincerely wished to put our music on vinyl, which he actually did, and sloburn001 was released in the year 2000. The track ‘Wheels Of Steel’  is an excerpt of our first live performance in The Hagues infamous loser bar ‘Cafe Koos’, where again nobody  complained out loud. Which is truely different from getting no attention at all.

A New Face In Hell

| date: 23 July 1998

Early 1998 we felt the need to do something different. Attempting to break the golden tekno rules, we gathered some crappy equipment and began sampling tiny bits of Charlies old record collection. Substance abuse made it difficult to properly connect the wires, but we managed to record a couple of C60 ferro cassettes eventually.  Some months later we selected the better parts to compile our conceptual cassette album. The only  criterium was that it had to  sound good enough on the car stereo. Copies were sent to our former tekno heroes all over the world (anonymously, though). More copies were accidentally left behind at our friends places, and record shops.

Playing live as Nimoy instead (not Unit Moebius, because the band had officially ceased to exist). Selling unlabeled audio cassettes at techno parties was a  common thing to do in the nineties. I had bought an ancient cassette copy machine to be able to deliver on demand. It took 3 minutes to complete a C60 copy, both sides at once. Ferro tapes survived the copy process more often, but sounded like mud through fog. Exactly enough tapes were sold to make up for train fares, beers and the price of the tape machine.
