Funky Sobrietas is the slick love child by Leuk en Ko’s Jan Duivenvoorden and Richard Van Den Bogaert. Intended to be a poppy German Italo duo for a wedding act amidst the squatting scene of The Hague, the music they produced was of more value than just an one-off. From a shoebox stacked with dodgy recordings two tracks were selected that offer you the full Funky Sobrietas spectrum. ‘Maria’ is the anthem for the one you would die for, with unpretentious vocals and echoes but catchy synths nonetheless. ‘Sunny’ is six glasses of champagne later when the wedding is on it’s flipside, with a nifty dry bassline and quirky synths. Comes in opaque white vinyl and (again) beautiful riso printed artwork, pressed in limited amount (123) for all the die-hards out there.

“Leuk en Ko is the Dutch bastard child by Unit Moebius members Jan Duivenvoorden and Richard van den Bogaert. Creating a vault of hard to classify material from mid eighties until early nineties, it didn’t get out there for whatever reason. After ”De Snoei 1” appeared on ”World of Rubber 3”, the big follow-up is here — an album of 13 selected ”songs” mastered from tape, pressed on vinyl and put in a nifty package (song texts included!) that works like a charm at home, on the floor or at a funeral”

“The gruelling chug of A1 is led by hollow, bouncy drums and subtle complaints like coming from Sid Vicious’s taped mouth, followed by asphyxial feel of A2.

The B-side opens with rubbery stabs and eerie clonks that are guided by rotating turbines like engineered by Vainio Väisänen Vega and giving the sensations of hellish, sole-burning treadmill while the B2 is about dissonant funk from the abstracter side.

Ever since their first release on Bunker, Shitcluster has been a favourite orchestra of mine and in their Panzerkreuz debut, they target non-conservative dancefloor with their darkest sound so far, without any tongue-in-cheek feel of pioneer times”.
